Minister's Thugs Brutalize Taxi Driver

Written by  Samuel Kamara

On Thursday 19th March 2011, well armed security officers attached to the Minster of Defence, Paolo Conteh, abused the laws of Sierra Leone by descending on a taxi driver and giving him the beating of his life.

The incident took place at Fort Street in the morning hours of Thursday. The commercial vehicle  had halted in order to allow school going children to cross the road safely.

The bodyguards of the Minister, who were escorting the minister, climbed down their vehicles like rebels and rudely queried the driver for ‘blocking the minister’.

Before the driver could explain that his action was not an attempt to block the minister but simply to grant safe crossing to the school children, hell was let loose on him.

In the full view of the public, the driver was dragged out of his car and seriously manhandled.

After the soldiers have satisfied themselves, the bleeding driver was abandoned in a gutter and the minister’s convoy rudely drove off. The driver who was groaning in pain was rescued by passersby, who rushed him to the hospital where he is presently receiving treatment.

This is not the first time that the bodyguards of the Defence Minister are attacking and manhandling people.

They drive at neck-breaking speeds and one dares not stop them.

All the calls for the minister to be cautioned has so far fell on deaf ears and the minister and his thugs continue to unleash terror on innocent citizens unabated.
